Woodborough Tennis Club has been in existence for over 60 years, providing a protected space for tennis activities for the village community. The annual fees assist the club in maintaining two courts and associated equipment. The club is run and maintained by the Woodborough Tennis Club Committee comprising several volunteers (see below for details) and is supported by the Parish Council.

We regard the club as an essential village amenity which provides sporting and fitness opportunities for villagers of all ages and abilities. We always welcome new members of any playing ability, and have established social tennis sessions on Sundays (10am-noon) and Tuesdays (5pm-8:30pm - summer only).

Our coach Simon McBride offers coaching sessions for adults and children at the village school. Private lessons are available on request. See the 'Coaching' page for contact details.

We also offer a 'Pay and Play' facility for the occasional player or for guests of members. See the 'Pay and Play' page for more details.

Our hope is that we can offer you a warm welcome with relaxed and friendly playing opportunities.

We are affiliated to the Notts Lawn Tennis Association and are compliant with their regulatory processes, which allows us to have LTA venue registration (Please see our noticeboard for further details).

Christine Jackson
Chairperson

I have been a member of the Woodborough Tennis club for probably around 30 years and a committee member for 20 years. I have been playing tennis since senior school and was a part of the school doubles tennis team. I continued to play on and off (mainly off) during my working life and whilst bringing up two boys. Both boys, who are now adults, continue  to play tennis but sadly my partner can’t be persuaded to play as it “interferes with my golf”. I rediscovered my love of tennis when I retired recently and decided to play again and have coaching. I will probably never improve now but I just love playing and being outside.

Nancy O’Neil
Vice Chairperson

Hi, I'm Nancy, the vice Chair of Woodborough Tennis Club. I have been playing Tennis for the past 25 years through which I've made some wonderful friends.

I have been a Committee member for several years and have found the club to be a fun and friendly place to be a part of.

Alex Wilson
Treasurer

I Joined the tennis club soon after moving to Woodborough in 2000, our children were young at the time, and it was a great opportunity to encourage them to play tennis; they attended coaching and were soon beating their Mum and Dad with ease. They have both moved away now after university but continue to play, and we still  occasionally have a family game when they come home. I am working full time so struggle to fit tennis into my busy schedule but still occasionally blow the dust off my racket to play. I am happy to contribute in a small way to the club and enjoy the social side of tennis, and hopefully as I get more time on my hands I will play regularly again.

Richard Whincup
Membership Secretary

Court Maintenance

We moved to Woodborough in 2004. My daughter played tennis regularly until she left school, but dodgy knees mean I’ve been a lapsed player for many years.

I’m a retired management consultant and ex-chair of the Parish Council, and I like to contribute in some small way to village life. I’m currently Tennis Club Membership Secretary, having been a committee member for several years.

Lisa Wilson
Welfare and Safeguarding Officer, LTA link, Booking Secretary

I have worked as a Nurse/Midwife for the NHS for many years. I have juggled work and parenthood whilst trying to keep myself fit. As a family we have all enjoyed tennis at the club and now that my boys have flown the nest I am thoroughly enjoying playing with other members, especially on a Wednesday evening.I have made some great friends through both being on the committee over the past 20 years and through playing at the club.

Lynne Morgan
Publicity

My family moved to Woodborough in  1966 and my parents were instrumental in reinvigorating the village Tennis Club serving on the committee for many years. The majority of my teenage social life was played out on the courts and 50+ years later I am still 100% supportive of this great village amenity despite being unable to play myself any more.

Simon McBride
Tennis Coach

I have been teaching tennis for over 35 years and love what I do and learn more every year. I specialize in group coaching from juniors to adults and like nothing more than seeing a group of students enjoying and progressing each week. My philosophy is always to bring something new to each lesson, keep it simple and energetic and progressive. I also love to work on a one to one basis, working more intensively to improve any player.

Qualifications: PTR Academy Pro, PTR Pro rated, LTA Level 3.

Jo Bishop

I have been a local resident of Woodborough and surrounding local villages for over 25 years. During this time I have actively supported Woodborough Tennis Club and the work of the committee. Supporting our community activities is also important to me in my professional life working as a Community Public Health Nurse.
